Re: 8-14-2010 Lubbock Cooper Scrimmage
well kevin i thought this scrimmage was a learning experience for us we were
out alot of guys and it showed that players behind those who are starters need
to step up and be able to hold there own which starts with listening in practice
because there is going to be a time when something happens and someone has to step
up.
now the way we played i say we could have done better and we certainly will
but i would have to say that as far as defense goes we did awesome in the begining
but towards the end we let up a little on secondary. we pretty much stoped the run
but they just started to pass on us the rest of the scrimmage
as for offense i agree 100% it starts with the line and we didnt do to well when it
came down to the basic things like knowing the snap count and doing one of the
most important things talking on the line we need to learn to talk more before
the play begins
if we can work on that this week of practice i believe we will have a better scrimmage
this week but thank you kevin you are great at what you do and all of us mustangs
are grateful for your involvement in our program

yeah scrimmages are just a way of going full speed in hopes that if someone gets hurt it's someone on the other side. I know it sounds wrong, but hey we need all the help we can get. it's not like we're wylie and have 200 players

Though his team played short-handed, Sweetwater coach Craig Slaughter gave no excuses after Lubbock Cooper dominated Saturday’s opening scrimmage at Mustang Bowl, winning by a 4-0 touchdown count.
“I’m very disappointed,” he said. “We had much bigger expectations than what we performed. We did a horrible job of protecting (quarterback) T.J. (Jones) and a horrible job in the secondary.”
The statistics bore him out as Jones, the team’s junior second-year QB, was under constant pressure by Cooper’s defense and was just 2-of-8 for 26 yards with two sacks. Cooper’s No. 1 quarterback was intercepted by Sweetwater’s Ryan Linebaugh on the Pirates’ first series, but warmed up after that to finish 14-of-22 for 241 yards including touchdown passes of 70 and 11 yards to account for Cooper’s last two scores on the Pirates’ final 15-play series. He also had a 3-yard run to end the first 15-play sequence. Cooper’s No. 2 unit also wrapped up their final series by scoring through the air on a 25-yard touchdown.
Sweetwater had some success running with 132 yards on 37 attempts, but got inside Cooper’s 30 just once and that series ended with an incompletion and a sack. The No. 1 unit didn’t get past midfield on its first 15-play series, and the second unit also struggled offensively. Kevin Sepeda (6, 35) and Adrian Lopez (8, 32) were the top rushers and Linebaugh and Cameron Fox caught first-down passes for Sweetwater, which plays its final scrimmage at San Angelo Lake View on Friday.
OH I almost forgot Good luck tomorrow guys. I won't make it, so I expect some updates when you get back
