Pre-Game Routine

Post  Kevin on Thu Aug 19, 2010 2:34 pm

What do you do before a friday night game to get you prepared for battle? do you have a certain spot in the fieldhouse that gets you prepared, or do you sit on a certain seat on a bus? Tape at a certain time? are there certain songs you listen to in a certain order? do you have a certain order for doing things? are you meticulous about it? let me know some of your secrets. I'll write some of mine down from what I can remember sometime
and it will be interesting, because things have changed alot from when I played to now

Here's what I can remember.
I'd get to the field house early and when I say early I mean usually hours before we were told to show up. I'd grab all of my stuff out of my locker and move to the middle cage and sit it all out on the floor in a certain order while I started Metallica's Black album. I'd check all of my straps and laces on all of my pads and get everything but the laces on my cleats spatted while everyone showed up. when everyone started showing up I;d grab my music and go to the weightroom and lay on the leg press machine with the lights turned off while I listened to some of these songs
KoRn - It's On
Staind - Take It
Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
Cold - Just Got Wicked
Rage Against the Machine - Testify
Rage Against the Machine - Revolver

Start getting dressed and listen to some of these
Papa Roach - Binge
Papa Roach - Blood Brothers
Finger 11 - Bones + Joints
The Offspring - Come Out and Play
The Offspring - Bad Habit
Deftones - Knife Party
Lifer - Boring
Fight - Little Crazy
KoRn - Blind would always be the very last song I heard before I left for the field

Going down the steps of the bowl there used to be a Flag Pole in the middle of the landing halfway down. now you can see the metal slug on the ground. I used to stop thank God for having the chance to be there that night and tap the pole.
(if u see me go down the steps now. I still do the same thing) I'd go warm up and do team drills grab a drink of water go to the northwest corner (let me show my age here) back when it was still grass and throw up as the team was going back to the fieldhouse for pre-game the end

I get to the fieldhouse and just sit down and listen to my music the whole time, while i get taped, padded up and everything and just get focused and ready sittting in my locker, i just close my eyes and see how i want the game to go and what is going to happen, visualizing all the good plays that im going to make. it really helps to get me pumped and ready

I like to show up early as well. Always one of the first ones there. I dont want to feel and sense of being rushed. Because that causes me to lose focus. I like to go get my tape done early so I can get focused. I have my ipod on me the whole time. I usually get everything on but my shoulder pads and helmet and go to the big room to do a little stretching just so that i know im good and loose. I tape my wrists and use a sharpie to write my favorite bible verse on it. Phil. 4:13. And of course, youve gotta have those pre-game tylenol. I like to sit in my locker and listen to my music and just focus and let my emotion build up inside me. Im not a real big crazy person I just like to let it build up in me so that when I hit the field I just explode.

I'm the quiet guy that doesn't say a word until pregame. Music is a huge part of my pregame. The songs vary but the last song is always "remember the name" by fort minor
